Foyle Proteins

Interactive map

Operating as a stand-alone, fully integrated site, Foyle Proteins is one of the most modern rendering facilities in Europe, processing animal by-products for the Foyle Food Group as well as other leading processors throughout Ireland. Possessing a reputation for innovation, Foyle Proteins has developed the capacity to recycle its energy, reducing its dependence on fossil fuels and subsequently gaining recognition among energy and environmentalist groups.

The facility has been in operation for over 5 years and benefits from an ongoing intensive maintenance programme, conducted by Haarslev, and Babcock & Wanson - its primary equipment suppliers. Production cycles generally run from Monday to Saturday, but Foyle Proteins has the capacity to increase output when required. The process is entirely computer automated; from the receipt of the raw material to the despatch of the finished products.

Foyle Proteins has a policy to regularly review and conduct staff training in relation to every aspect of the business such as Health & Safety, Investors in People, HACCP, IPPC and ABPR. Training is conducted to the highest industry standards ensuring a safe working environment.

Foyle Proteins is a member of the UKRA and regularly gains advice on a variety of issues such as changes to legislation which may affect the operation of the plant or the safety of the workforce.

In December 2004, the National Fallen Animal Scheme (NFAS) was launched in the UK, legally requiring all fallen animals to be processed through a rendering plant. Any farmer may register with the NFAS by phoning 0845 054 8888. All payments for the collection of animals are automatically debited from suppliers’ accounts when each collection is logged on the system.

Foyle Proteins employ a number of dedicated ‘collectors’ who cover Northern Ireland, collecting fallen stock within two working days from the date of notification. All collectors have been approved by DARD and annual inspections are undertaken to ensure that each collector conforms to Governmental and industry regulations.
